Canned Food Desperately Needed for Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s Emergency Food Boxes

6,000 Canned Fruits and Vegetables Needed Each Week

Inter-Faith Food Shuttle is in desperate need of canned fruits and vegetables to continue its production of emergency food boxes. The Food Shuttle has been distributing approximately 1,500 food boxes and BackPack Buddies each week in their seven-county service area since the onset of COVID-19.  They anticipate that they will need approximately 6,000 canned fruits and vegetables per week to continue at this pace.

“Our regular supply chain is overwhelmed and lagging, challenging our ability to meet the demand now. Our vegetable order that was supposed to be here the middle of the week of April 6th is now delayed to the end of the week of April 13th. We need our community to help fill in the gaps. If they don’t, we will run out of shelf-stable canned vegetables by next week,” said Bethann James, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s Interim CEO/President.

No Contact and Curbside Drop-off Available at Three Locations in the Triangle

To make it easy for community members to safely donate canned goods, the Food Shuttle has set-up drop-off bins at their three Triangle locations:

·         1001 Blair Dr. in Raleigh, M-F 8 am to 3 pm and Saturdays 8 am to noon (curbside)

·         2300 Dover Farm Rd in Raleigh at the Food Shuttle, M-F 8am to 3 pm (outdoor bins near Farm Stand)

·         2436 S. Miami Blvd in Durham, M-F 9 am to 3 pm (Ring doorbell and leave at door)

#MobilizeMondays – Help the Food Shuttle kick off the week with a full warehouse of food!

Starting Monday, April 6, community members are invited to be a part of a movement called #MobilizeMondays. Every Monday, the Food Shuttle is asking everyone to make a special effort to drop off non-perishable food donations to one of the three locations listed above. Follow the Food Shuttle on Facebook and Instagram (@FoodShuttle) as we share the progress on food collection on Mondays.

In addition, we invite neighborhoods to organize drives. Designate a leader to organize a central drop off location such as a garage or porch and that designated person can then bring the collected food items to the Food Shuttle.
