As Hunger Action Month continues through September, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle and the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina remain steadfast in efforts to address hunger relief in our state. Relatively unique in our shared service area, our two organizations of the Feeding America network of food banks work together to provide distinct services that meet the needs of those facing food insecurity. Through ongoing food distribution and education, community health, and agricultural programming, the Food Shuttle and the Food Bank empower our neighbors to lift the burden of hunger and move toward our shared mission of a hunger free community.
On Thursday, September 29, from 12 to 1 p.m., friends and supporters of the Food Shuttle and the Food Bank are invited to join us for an online event to learn the ways these two agencies are joining forces to address the issue of food insecurity in our community. A Virtual Town Hall will be presented, featuring the Food Shuttle’s VP of Operations and Logistics, Melvin Acosta, and the Food Bank’s SVP of Operations, Charlie Hale. Focusing on shared efforts of ongoing response to disaster relief to what the future holds, this one-hour presentation will take attendees “behind the scenes” for a look at how new and emerging work is being done to eradicate hunger.
“Nourishing people and the work of truly ending hunger in North Carolina takes all of us coming together to learn from one another, share resources and best practices, while addressing any gaps we can identify,” said Charlie Hale, SVP of Operations. “That’s why the relationship between the Food Bank and Inter-Faith Food Shuttle is so important. We are partners in this mission.”
Melvin Acosta echoes this sentiment. “During the last twelve months, the face of hunger in North Carolina has changed. With COVID, gas prices, supply chain issues and inflation, a dollar doesn’t go as far as it used to go. By working together with the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC, we can continue to combine forces, share data, resources and experiences, that have helped us increase not only our efficiency but our effectiveness in the community. We share a vision and a mission and, together with the support of the community, we can help our community in efforts to eradicate food insecurity.”
