Our Back-to-School campaign reminds us that along with pencils and paper, children need a daily supply of food to take on new concepts, run on playgrounds, and socialize more successfully.
Our Community Health and Agriculture Education teams have collaborated to develop the new Food Shuttle Academy, an online learning platform with free, self-paced lessons on health, nutrition, agriculture, and more!
Our Spring Match challenge, made possible by generous funders, including SOLV Energy and the Mead Family Foundation, exceeded the $105,000 goal, raising an additional $70,000 to erase hunger!

Their philanthropic Love, Tito’s Block to Block program, reconnects neighborhoods and creates community gardens and farms throughout the United States. Our hearts are in full bloom knowing that our Camden Street Garden will be the next beneficiary of Block to Block, allowing neighbors with mobility challenges to access our many activities more easily.
Inter-Faith Food Shuttle is dedicated to finding innovative ways to fight hunger, and partnerships with community members like Doron Gordon, Patrick Faulkner, Alonzo Alexander, and the Gordon Family Foundation make this possible. We are incredibly grateful for the Gordon Family Foundation’s gift of the FarmBot, and excited about its potential to teach children about growing their own food!
Over the past week, WRAL has aired a variety of interviews with Food Shuttle staff and volunteers. These interviews have highlighted many of our amazing programs and drawn attention to the problem of hunger among certain populations. We are so grateful to WRAL for this opportunity to share our mission and stories with the community!
As children return to the classroom, they should be able to focus on learning, not where their next meal might come from. Our programs provide them with food that is fresh, nutritious, and tailored to the unique needs of their families and communities, but we can’t do it without your help. Ending hunger in our community is a group effort, but that doesn’t mean our volunteers can’t engage in a little friendly competition!
On July 20th, a team of fifteen volunteers from Merck pharmaceutical company arrived at the Child Food Hub in Durham to pack family meal boxes. These boxes provide meals to hungry families across seven counties in North Carolina. Learn more about volunteering at our Child Food Hub here.
When the volunteer team learned from staff that the record for family meal box packing was 421 boxes in one shift, they were immediately determined to break this record. They worked hard through the morning, filling box after box with nutritious food. At the end of their shift, they were proud to learn that they had packed 493 family meal boxes, beating the previous record by 72 boxes!
“The Merck volunteers were so efficient and kind,” shares Candace Burch, warehouse associate at the Child Food Hub. “We loved them and welcome them back any time!”
