Plant your Fall Crop now!

Plant A Row for the Hungry has been a huge success.  We are still collecting donations of fesh fruits and vegetables that go to feed families, children and seniors across the Greater Triangle. And just because summer is winnding down doesn't mean Plant A Row is going away.  Did you see Gov Perdue planting a row at the governor's mansion last week?  We hope you'll consider doing the same.  Fall gardens can yield delicous, nutritous greens and we will will continue collecting your Plant A Row produce througout the year.  You can bring them right here to the Food Shuttle or to Logan Trading Co in Dowtown Raleigh.

And if you've never had a garden before, we've made some helpful videos with our friends at Logans to show you how to get started. First up is how to plant your fall crop in a container.  This is perfect if you don't have space in your yard but still want to grow fresh vegetables and Plant A Row for the Hungry!

Farm Potluck tomorrow night

Come on out for the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle FARM POTLUCK!

We will have our monthly Farm Potluck this Tuesday, September 15th at 6pm.

The weather should be amazing and there’s an abundance of produce to enjoy in the triangle.  The IFFS monthly Farm Potlucks are a great opportunity to meet other volunteers, check out what’s been going on out at the farm, and enjoy delicious local food!   Our first potluck was a huge success and we’re hoping to get more of you out there every month.  We’d love to see each of you out there, even if you haven’t had a chance to volunteer or visit yet.   Please bring a dish to share and enjoy getting to know other Food Shuttle supporters.

Planning on coming?  We will certainly embrace all last minute attendees, however, if you do plan to come please let Katherine know (Katherine@foodshuttle.org) so that we have an approximate head count.

Mark your calendars now for the fall – we will be having Farm Potlucks the 2nd Tuesday of every month.  The next potluck will be on October 13th.

The farm is located at 2401 Dover Farm Rd, just off Tryon Rd in Raleigh.

We'll see you all there tomorrow night!

Gov. Bev Perdue joins PAR campaign!

Gov. Bev Perdue joined the Food Shuttle and Logans Trading Co. this morning to plant some collard greens and cabbage for the PAR program! It was a wonderful way to start the day at the Food Shuttle by fighting hunger alongside the Governor. With the PAR program ending this month, it is important for the people in North Carolina to remember to donate their extra produce to people in need! News 14 Carolina was at the Governor's Mansion as the fall crops were planted:

OFL Thoughts on Durham Service Center Ribbon Cutting

Matt Carusona, IFFS's Operation Frontline AmeriCorps, attended the ribbon cutting on Wednesday and shares his thoughts on the exciting opportunity Operation Frontline now has in Durham.

With yesterday’s ribbon cutting ceremony at the Durham Service Center, the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle opens its doors in the Durham community and “steps out.” With this momentous event comes opportunity - opportunity for the Operation Frontline program to expand its reach and service within Durham. With six Durham OFL programs in 2008, nine in 2009 and fifteen planned for 2010 the IFFS Operation Frontline Program continues to grow in Durham. Having a physical presence in Durham creates unique opportunity for IFFS OFL to reach out and connect with individuals, organizations on a much more organic basis. However, as the amount of classes offered increases so does the need for volunteer chefs, nutritionist, and educators to help lead and manage OFL classes. Individuals and or organizations who want to get involved should contact staff to find out further information about opportunities in Durham. IFFS’s OFL program was excited to be a part of yesterday’s event and looks forward to growing within the Durham community.
