Plant a Row for the Hungry Kicks Off 2nd Year this Saturday

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Mar 08, 2010—

Raleigh- Inter-Faith Food Shuttle and local garden shop, Logan’s Trading Co., will hold an all day Plant A Row for the Hungry (PAR) kick-off event on March 13th from 8:00am until 5:30pm at Logan’s.

Plant A Row for the Hungry is a national grassroots initiative through the Gardens Writers Association that encourages gardeners to plant extra produce and donate the surplus to area hunger relief organizations. Inter-Faith Food Shuttle is the Triangle’s PAR partner and emphasizes local fresh foods in its Farms and Community Gardens Project as well.

“We’ve always believed that good nutritious food should not go to waste, and the PAR program aligns with that value. Partnering with Logan’s Trading Company again this year allows us to reach more Triangle gardeners to get even more pounds of nutritious locally grown food to community residents in need,” said Katherine Andrew, Director of Nutrition at Inter-Faith Food Shuttle.

Mayor Charles Meeker will help kick-off the PAR campaign on Saturday. Planned activities for the day include two garden demonstrations from Logan’s, a cooking demonstration with Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s Chef Terri Hutter, and watermelon planting for children.
